Film deteriorates over time, it's a fact. You don't want to wait until it's too late and find out that your precious memories have faded away, do you? If you value your images and want to preserve them the best option you have is film scanning. High-resolution scans are a great way to archive and preserve your history, because unlike film, digital files do not fade or color shift on their own. Files can be copied in a few mouse clicks and storage media is fairly inexpensive. This means copies can be easily made and stored in multiple locations. Simple storage is not the only benefit of having your film scanned, there are many advantages to bringing your film into the digital age.
Once your slides and film have been scanned it can be restored to its original condition, and it can even be improved. In most cases, colors can be brought back to life and fading restored. We do basic color corrections and fading restoration on all our scans free of charge. This is a starting point, but for most people further adjustments are not required. The great thing about digital images is that you can do whatever you wish; further color adjustments and even advanced retouching. The possibilities are endless!
Our Process
All our scans are done individually by hand to ensure the highest level of quality possible. Materials are evaluated pre and post scan and adjustments are made if needed. Your materials are always handled professionally and with care, we know they are priceless to you. You can read more about our scan process for specific film types on our services page.
Our Scans Include
» Free digital ICE on all scans except 4x5 film and prints
» Free basic color & exposure corrections
» Free image rotation
» Free image cropping
» Free CD/DVD's & cases
How It Works
If you don't know a thing about scanning read some of our articles to learn about what the various processing options are and what they can do for your images. We want our customers to be well informed about what's available and so we try to explain the technical aspects of scanning as simply as we can. Next, sort through your images to decide what you would like to have scanned. There are limits to what we can do. Scanning will not perform miracles and turn a bad picture into a good one! Remember when sorting that bad pictures will be bad scans, out-of-focus pictures will be out-of-focus scans, over/under exposed pictures will be over/under exposed scans, and so on. Once you know what you want scanned, please fill out our quote request form and we will email you back as soon as possible (usually within a few hours) with all the necessary information. After you receive a quote on your project you can send your images in to us and we will take it from there.
What You Get
When we're done we send you back your original materials along with the CD/DVD's containing the scans. Our scans are labeled numerically and can be placed in grouped folders at no additional charge. The CD/DVD's play on either Mac's or PC's and come in jewel cases with basic labels. We do not label the media itself because we believe any ink/markings/adhesive labels can be harmful to the disc in the long term. Even the National Institute of Standards and Technology recommends not using adhesive disc labels and storing them upright in jewel cases. Some services have fancy graphics on their discs, but that's just for show and advertising. Why would you need that? We want you to remember Pearson Imaging because we do good work, not because we plaster our logo all over the place. We also want our discs to last as long as possible. The most important thing when choosing a scanning service is finding one that delivers top quality scans, and that's what we deliver.
